Hey everyone, it's Amanda here!
I hope you've all had a wonderful February. It's been a few weeks since my last update, and I'm excited to share something that's been happening behind the scenes at Not Basics.
As many of you know, we rebranded from Pantee to Not Basics back in September 2024. But you might have noticed that your orders have still been arriving in our old packaging. There's a good reason for this - we've been committed to using up all of our existing packaging before switching to something new. It's just one of the ways we're trying to minimise waste in every aspect of our business.
Now that we've finally used the last of our old mailers, it's time to introduce packaging that reflects our Not Basics identity. And in true Not Basics fashion, we want to bring you along for the decision-making process.
We're staying with paper mailing bags because they perfectly align with our sustainability values. We genuinely prefer plastic-free options for our packaging – it's a non-negotiable for us.
We actually wanted to get these in white, but the minimum order quantities (MOQs) for white paper mailers are still too high for us right now. But we don't mind the natural kraft look too, so we're embracing it!
Here's what makes our mailers special:
But now comes the fun part - we have three design options, and we'd love your input on which one should become the new face of Not Basics deliveries!
This design features our brand philosophy front and center, with "NOT BASICOLOGY" as the headline, followed by the phonetic pronunciation (/nät bā-sik/) and "The Not Basic Philosophy." It includes our full manifesto that explains our holistic approach to living, valuing quality over quantity, depth over breadth, and the pursuit of true fulfilment over conformity. It's a beautiful expression of what we stand for as a brand.
Simple, striking, and with a touch of humour - this design features our tagline "You've never seen basics like this before" with the word "basics" highlighted in our signature red. It's minimal yet impactful, letting our playful brand personality shine through while maintaining that elevated aesthetic we're known for.
This option showcases our longer philosophy about daily life as a reflection of values. It speaks to the kind of intentional choices our community makes - choosing the cosy independent café, investing time in meaningful connections, and carving your own path. With highlighted phrases in our red accent colour, it's a beautiful narrative about what it means to be "Not Basic" in your everyday life.
Now, I'd love to hear which design speaks to you the most! Each one represents the Not Basics aesthetic in a different way, and we're really torn about which direction to take.

P.P.S. We're waiting to hear back from our printers about whether we'll be able to include the red text shown in the designs. Fingers crossed! But even if we need to go with all black print, the design you choose will still be the one we use.
