If you saw our Instagram post yesterday, you may have spotted something we haven’t officially announced yet... we’re working on Not Basics pyjamas!
I shared a few very unaesthetic photos from my camera roll that I’d sent to our production team, and judging by the comments, you were just as excited about the pyjamas as we are.
So, I thought this was the perfect opportunity for another Design Discussion.
One of my favourite parts of developing a new product is obsessing over all the tiny details that you probably wouldn’t think twice about once you’re actually wearing it. But those little decisions are often what make something become a piece you reach for again and again.
We have our first pyjama sample, and while there’s already a lot I love about it (the fabric feels unreal), there are a few details we’re still deciding on.
And rather than us making all of those decisions behind the scenes, we want to know what you would choose.
We’re developing the pyjamas in a super soft pointelle fabric, but do we do the tiny floral pink print or strip things right back with a block colour? If your voting block colour, what colour?
I have a feeling this one could divide opinion...
Our first sample has a Henley neckline with buttons, but we’ve also mocked up a simpler crew neck.
As you know we design our pieces to be sensory-friendly, so without seems a better option in that respect.
Which would you actually want to sleep in?
This is exactly the sort of tiny detail I can spend FAR too long thinking about.
Do we add a subtle scalloped finish to the edges, or keep everything clean and simple with a straight edge?
And finally, the PJ bottoms.
Do the little buttons add something, or are they an unnecessary detail you’d rather not have on your pyjamas?
This one has already caused some discussion in the comments — including discovering that a fear of buttons is apparently much more common than I realised!
I'd really love to get your honest feedback on these four design details - your input is always super invaluable as we finalise these decisions.
So please, drop a comment below and let me know your thoughts! I can't wait what you think.
Thank you in advance for your feedback. I'm so grateful to have such an engaged community helping us shape the future of Not Basics.
1 – print
2 – Henley
3 – straight edge, scallop is going to annoy the engles of us neurodivergents
4 – no buttons (honestly I don’t get this in women’s pjs, we don’t have bits we can whip out for a pee in the night)
Button down for both top and bottom, scallop edge and print. It will look great no matter what though so go with your gut x
Block colour
Crew neck
Straight
No buttons
And to throw something else into the mix I would like ribbed sleeves and ankles ….
Hey Amanda,
My opinion: Block colour, crew neck, no buttons, scallop edge leg opening for PJ’s.
P.S. unrelated but I would buy every halter neck top with built in bra and if it comes with matching bottoms like joggers or shorts then that’s just cherry on top!
